What is the PCB Board Material?
PCB board material can use many kinds of materials, such as FR1, FR2, FR3, FR4, and so on, but the common PCB board material is FR4.
FR1 has a higher TG of 130℃ while FR2 is 105℃. Some laminate manufacturers who produce FR1 but may not produce FR2 because the cost and usage of FR1 and FR2 are almost similar but the effective cost is not the same.
FR3 is the same as FR2. But FR3 uses an epoxy resin binder as phenol resin.
FR4 (FR = Flame Retardant )is a glass fiber epoxy laminate. It is the most common and popular among PCB using material. The maximum ambient temperature is between 120℃ and 130℃, depending on the PCB thickness.In China FR4 is the most widely used PCB base material, the following is FR1 and FR2. But FR1 and FR2 are usually used for 1 layer PCB circuit boards because they are not good for passing through holes. FR3 is not recommended for using in multilayer PCB. FR4 is the best choice for manufacturing printed circuit boards. FR4 is widely used because it is good to make all kinds of layers PCB boards from one layer to multilayer PCB. PCB factory can make all kinds of PCB with FR4, which makes quality control much easier, and eventually, it can reduce the cost!
From the above analysis, it is obvious that FR4 is the best choice and excellent material to make PCB in PCB market. Some materials may be cheaper than FR4 but it can only be used to make one-layer boards, and the stability and reliability of the boards made by these materials are not good. So they are only used for one-layer and very simple boards.
